Graphing Calculator Information

Class sets of calculators are provided to most students - for 11th and 12th grades these are graphing calculators.

As outlined in the letter below, all AP and IB math courses require a TI-84 or similar graphing calculator. Students may provide their own, with a serial number, to the main office. Otherwise, the school provides one for them and they are charged $115 to their school fees. They may keep the calculator upon graduation.

The letter is as follows:

Hello Senn Families of AP and IB Math Students:

The Senn Math Department in collaboration with the LSC (Local School Council) has added a TI-84 graphing calculator to student fees for all students who are in AP or IB Math Classes. This fee is $115. While these calculators are expensive, they are a vital learning tool that students will use consistently during their advanced math classes at Senn and throughout their college years. Without having one daily in class, students will not be adequately prepared for their exams at the end of these courses.

Students may already have their own TI-84 calculators. In these cases, students may present their calculators (they must physically have the calculator) and have the serial number recorded, at which point the debt will be removed from their account.

The best part about students getting their calculators through Senn is that they get to keep them upon graduation. That said, if a student drops their AP or IB course, the calculator will need to be returned and a portion of the fee will be removed from their account, unless a student wants to pay to keep it.

We hope that students will recognize the responsibility of owning their own calculator, take care of it and bring it for use in class and at home daily. If a student loses a calculator or damages it beyond repair, they may receive another but will incur an additional fee. Students should not share calculators. Every student in AP and IB classes needs their own.
