IB Career-related Programme

Senn High School is a candidate school* for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Career-related Programme and pursuing authorization as an IB World School. IB World Schools share a common philosophy—a commitment to improve the teaching and learning of a diverse and inclusive community of students by delivering challenging, high quality programmes of international education that share a powerful vision.**

The IB Career-related Programme (CP) is a comprehensive course of study for 11th and 12th grade students.

In addition to fulfilling standard graduation requirements, CP candidates are required to complete the following in 11th and 12th grades:

A minimum of 2 IB Diploma courses
A career-related study course
A unique program course called Ethics and Professional Skills
A Reflective Project* (related to the chosen career-related study)
A Language Development** requirement (in a World Language other than English)
Service Learning (project to be tailored to the career-related study)

*The Reflective Project is an independent investigation, guided by an adult supervisor, in which the student explores an ethical issue related to their career-related study.

**The Language Development requirement can be fulfilled in one of the following ways:

The student takes an IB World Language course in addition to at least two other IB courses OR
The student takes a non-IB World Language course OR
The student completes at least 50 hours of independent language study, to be facilitated through the Ethics course.

Regardless of how the Language Development requirement is fulfilled, ALL CP students will complete a Language Portfolio in which they reflect on their growth as a learner of the selected language and culture.

Senn is in the application process for the IB Career-related Programme. If authorized by the IB, beginning with the class of 2023 (current sophomores), Senn will offer students who major in Journalism an opportunity to pursue the IB Career-related Certificate. It is anticipated that CP Candidacy will be an option for students in other Major Studies beginning with the class of 2024.

*Only schools authorized by the International Baccalaureate can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme or the Career-related Programme (CP).
